| SHOULD THEY TRY HARVEY WEINSTEIN AGAIN? |
It's over. Again. A Manhattan judge declared a mistrial today after the jury deadlocked for the second time on Harvey Weinstein's assault charges, making this the third trial and the second deadlock on the same incident involving the same accuser. Weinstein was convicted in 2020, sentenced to 23 years, then had his conviction overturned on appeal. Two juries have now failed to reach a verdict on this specific charge. He's already serving 16 years on a separate California conviction. The Manhattan DA has not said whether they'll pursue a fourth trial. The accuser has testified three times. Twelve jurors couldn't agree twice. Should prosecutors put her through it again? |
| POSITION A: Try Him Again |
| Two hung juries don't mean he's innocent. They mean twelve people couldn't unanimously agree. The accuser deserves a verdict that sticks, and walking away now sends the message that powerful men can outlast the legal system if they just run out the clock long enough. |
| POSITION B: Let It Go |
| Weinstein is already serving 16 years and will likely die in prison. Two juries couldn't convict on this specific charge after hearing all the evidence. At some point, continuing to put the accuser through trial after trial in pursuit of a verdict that may never come stops being justice and starts being something else. |
