Ravens Score PR Win As Lamar Jackson Joins For Offseason Workouts |
What Happened: The Baltimore Ravens’ offseason program began yesterday. Or at least Phase 1, which consists entirely of meetings and making sure players are in shape or rehabbing any lingering injuries. This phase involves zero on-field practice time.
Probably as a show of support for new head coach Jesse Minter, Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson was in attendance, and the team’s social media team went heavy on clips of Jackson in action. Spoiler alert: this all means very little! |
Why You Care: The little that it does mean? Sure, Minter will tout getting buy-in from Baltimore’s best player for his first offseason program, and can use that to spur participation from everyone else on the roster. After all, if Lamar Jackson can be here, why can’t some fifth-string linebacker?
Let's not pretend any of this makes a lick of difference for Jackson though. He’s already one of the very best passers in the NFL, with or without “Phase 1” participation. Don’t believe me? Since entering the NFL in 2018, the star quarterback has skipped most of these voluntary practices before showing up ready to go for mandatory minicamps. His two MVP awards and three first-team All-Pro nods throughout his career are strong evidence that Jackson prepares himself pretty thoroughly, whether he’s in the Ravens’ facility or not.
Seriously, go check out the videos of what Jackson was doing yesterday. Some moderate sprinting and a couple of pull-ups. Woah, watch out AFC North! This is stuff Lamar Jackson could do in April, July, after a game against the Steelers, whenever. So if you are a Ravens fan, be happy that QB1 is already in the building for a show of support as the team moves on from John Harbaugh and a new guy is running the show for the first time since 2007. Just don’t let expectations soar because Jackson threw on a pair of shorts and went through the motions in April. |

Then, when a completely predictable consequence follows, the players fake outrage. Well, Contreras is being extremely clear here: hit me again and I’m gonna hit you.
