Directed by Joachim Trier (The Worst Person in the World) and co-written with longtime collaborator Eskil Vogt, Sentimental Value reunites sisters Nora and Agnes (Renate Reinsve and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas) with their estranged father Gustav (Stellan Skarsgård), a filmmaker whose creative legacy looms over everything he failed to give them. The film is intimate and unhurried, more interested in the texture of old wounds than in dramatic confrontation. Skarsgård won the Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination for his performance — and it's easy to see why, a portrait of a man who genuinely cannot see the damage he's done. Reinsve, Trier's muse since The Worst Person in the World, is quietly extraordinary alongside him.
