LeBron James is 41. Should he finally retire?

He said "I don't know what the future holds." Neither do we.

SHOULD LEBRON RETIRE?

The Lakers got swept out of the second round Monday night by Oklahoma City. LeBron James — 41 years old, 23 seasons in, the all-time points leader — walked off the court and told reporters: "I don't know what the future holds for me, honestly."

He averaged 20.9 points this season — a career low, tied with his rookie year. He's a four-time champion who has played more minutes than anyone in league history, won every award the sport offers, and spent the last two seasons playing alongside his son. Every player drafted alongside him in 2004 retired years ago.

The greatest of his generation may have just played his last game. The question isn't whether he can keep going. It's whether he should.

Pick Your Side
POSITION A: Yes, Retire
The MVP conversations stopped two years ago. At some point, "still good for his age" is just a polite way of saying it's over...and LeBron deserves to walk away before everyone starts saying it out loud.
POSITION B: Keep Playing
At 41 he's still averaging 21 points and still the best player on a playoff team; numbers most 28-year-olds would take. Retiring because of age when your body hasn't forced the decision is leaving before you have to, and LeBron has never done anything before he had to.
